General Information. Released in 1961 as the "luxurious" versions of the Mini, both the Wolseley Hornet and the Riley Elf were designed with longer slightly finned rear wings and longer boots. Inside, the Elf bore all of the trappings of luxury synonymous with British cars at that time. It's interior was lined with wood trim and leather.

The Riley Elf offered here was built in 1968 - making it one of the last mk. III vehicles, fitted with a 998 cc engine, rated at a claimed 38 bhp, with a claimed top speed of 77 mph. The Mark III also introduced wind-up windows and fresh-air fascia vents in the dashboard.

The Elf went through three versions. Initially, it used the 848 cc 34 BHP engine (engine type 8WR) with a single HS2 carburettor, changing to a single HS2 carburettor 38 BHP version of the Cooper's 998 cc power unit (engine type 9WR) in the Mark II in 1963. This increased the car's top speed from 71mph (114km/h) to 77mph (124km/h).
